50 days. The young leaves with their purple stems make a beautiful and nutritious addition to any salad. Leaves stay tender even when mature and are good lightly steamed or sautéed. Harvest leaves as needed being sure not to pick more than half the plant. Cold tolerant. Actually becomes more tender and sweet after a fall frost. Kale is very good for you being particularly high in calcium and vitamin C. Grows 2 – 3 feet tall.
