PERENNIAL. The smallest species of the onion family. Use like you would use scallions or green onions. The purple flower heads are also edible and have a delightful onion flavor. Each flower head contains many smaller flowers. Pull the flowers off from the base of the flower head and sprinkle over salad or pasta for a stunning presentation.
